... were the reactions of newbies and experienced XR users to whom we were able to show the latest Apple innovation.
As a new tech enthusiast, however, I'm particularly interested in: Is this all still a gimmick 🎮 or ready for productive use? 💼
So I put it to the test, grabbed the opportunity by the scruff of the neck (better: by the ski goggle-like frame 🥽) and put the glasses on. The initial set-up steps are actually simple and intuitive. Steve Jobs said at the launch of the iPhone: “We are all born with the ultimate pointing device-our fingers-and iPhone uses them to create the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse.” I think the Vision Pro takes this to the next level: it felt almost futuristic how precisely and quickly the device responded to my eye movements. 👀 Ease of use: check ✅
Setting up your personal workspace with different windows 🪟 is just as straightforward and, above all, user-friendly. Just like you are used to on the monitor. Only now the windows float around you in real/virtual space - where you have just pinned them. 📧 Emails, web browser 🖥️, MS Office 📝, ToDo app 📱, Messenger 💬, video calls ... everything where you find it most practical. Switching quickly between applications by changing the viewing angle is definitely an advantage in use. Productivity: check ✅
And what about comfort and graphics? Hm, yes, after a while you're glad to be able to act in reality again without a “board in front of your head”. 🙄 But I'm sure it will feel normal one day. And it hasn't really bothered me yet. Above all, the devices will be smaller and therefore lighter. In any case, the graphics are crazy: a 4K display the size of a postage stamp in front of each eye 👁️👁️ - you really enjoy using it (watch out for enter- and edutainment!). Comfort: check (with potential for improvement) ✅
Will the software and use case landscape expand? Of course. Will the technology become even cheaper and more suitable/convenient for everyday use? Certainly. Will further possibilities and potentials arise for everyday work, such as virtual meetings, collaboration, etc.? Probably. Will these or similar technologies change the way we work? Definitely! 💡
To summarize: Intuitive usability and graphical brilliance help to create an unagitated naturalness in dealing with the technology. In everyday office life 🏢 VR glasses of the current generation are therefore definitely ready for use. And not to forget: Trying it out is also really fun 😃
PS: What is a little difficult is drinking coffee ☕ with glasses on... but with a little practice, that works quite well too 😉
